Cecilia Ann Young Wimberly
My name is Cecilia Ann Young Wimberly, and I was born in Los Angles California but spent most of my life in the San Francisco Bay Area. I attended the University of California at Berkeley for my undergraduate degree in sociology, and a master’s degree in public health. I also received a bachelor’s degree in nursing. During my time at the University of California at Berkeley as a graduate student in the school of public health, I met a lot of students from all over the world, especially from the continent of Africa. I became interested in international health issues, and at one time, I wanted to work for the World Health Organization.
I now work in an intercity hospital with a diverse patient population. This hospital has proven the need to be knowledgeable about the socioeconomic determinants that affect health care status. I have the privilege of working in a health care system that acknowledges and understands the concepts of socioeconomic factors that affect health status. This hospital system donates millions of dollars in free health care.
I am also a mentor to young nurses and encourage them to expand their career goals through further education. I am an active member of the University of California at Berkeley Alumni Association, Emergency Nurses Association, and American Association of Legal Nurse Consultants.
