Learn More About Achalla Community

Achalla is the capital of Awka North Local Government Area in Anambra State, South East of Nigeria. It is comprised of 8 villages, namely; UMUDIANI AMUKABIA ODAWA UMUOGBE UMUNAGU UMUEZEDE AMADIM UDEZU. It is a close knit community with agriculture as it’s basic source Oc livelihood, and a population strength of over 40,000 people. Achalla has a large expanse of arable land, and is also endowed with natural gas amongst other natural resource. The drive is on currently by the reigning monarch- IGWE OSITADINMA NWOKEDI, to move the community from subsistence farming to an industrial mode, by reaching out to investors and partnering with NGOS, to drive the much needed growth of the community. To this end, Achalla is currently in partnership with MILLENIUM MISSION FOR HOPE AND CARE INTERNATIONAL & MISSION ACCOMPLISHED ACHALLA INCORPORATED, to engender educational health and agricultural programs that will elevate the wellbeing of indegenes of Achalla and neighboring communities. – programs that will inculcate better farming methods and implements to aid the process of food sustenance. Education is yet another avenue to growth being sought within the community.

We currently are drawing up a program with the two NGOS mentioned earlier that will encourage children in Achalla community to embrace education as a preferred channel of growth. These programs are aimed to both the parents and the children alike. They include “Back To School Initiative”, which is aimed at getting children off the streets and back to schools, through sensitization and provision of school uniforms, shoes, and other school kits. Scholarships are also offered as an incentive after debates and spelling bees. Particular attention is also being paid to the girl child in the educational drive within Achalla community as a way to mitigate child marriages and other unwholesome tendencies that prevails presently.

Health remains a huge challenge in Achalla, the health Centre within Achalla community needs supplies in other for it to be functional in discharging the primary health care needs of the community. A huge boost was recorded recently when Missions Accomplished Incorporated reactivated a water borehole and overhead tanks that has been inactive for many years. This has been of immense benefit to the health center so it has greatly reduced the task involved in hurling portable water from distant locations, to keep the health center running. These efforts though little have had a positive impact on the mindset of people within the community, and we can only hope that more will be done to elevate the living standards and spirit of Achallla community.
